Description
This new series of larger format linoleum blocks were created between January 2009 and July of 2010. This is the second double plates series that the artist has created at this scale.
Two Rabbits linocut
The Two Rabbits linocut is a singular image made from 2 separate plates. The positioning of the plates, with the rabbits either facing each other or facing away from each other makes the story – one of agreement or disagreement. Or perhaps the viewer creates their own story. The piece has the approachable characteristics found in folk-art. Like most of Smith’s pieces, this piece has carefully constructed design elements that will draw the viewer into the composition. They will feel instantly comfortable with the strong Jungian undercurrent. This piece strikes a wonderful balance between the simple – the external contour of the rabbits and the complex – the internal makeup of the same beasts.
This particular piece is printed on archival museum-grade paper and is remarqued by the artist.
